We are a little
over half way done with the trip, but it feels like we're on the home
stretch. Probably because we're finally adjusting to everything
we're doing, and getting used to how things work here. We ate
breakfast at the hotel then headed out to Kukurantumi where we will
be working with Our Talking Hands. It's a four hour drive so we
stopped to get chop (street food) and met Chris and Tammi's “son”
and his new baby girl, Tammi. The roads leading up to Scotts place
are very rough. The concrete ends randomly and then is replaced with
uneven dirt. And even when there are solid stretches of road there
are giant speed bumps every 50 feet, so sleeping on the bus is nearly
impossible. Thankfully we have a few days without long drives.
We arrived at
Scotts house (he works in the Peace Corps here and used to work with
Chris and Tammi). He had a badminton court set up for us and a
tailor to measure us and make us clothes out of the cloth we've
bought in the markets. It was nice to just sit and relax for the
evening, and Scott has a big yard for us to do things. Scotts wife's
name is Promise, and there are two children, Bless and Stephanie, who
have been very fun to goof off with. We will be here for the next 5
days learning and collaborating with Our Talking Hands.
